[It's training day. Again. It always seemed like it was training day. Not that he resented the chance to get better or improve, or even disliked the repitition - no, it was about the routine bowing and scraping to whichever Higher Rank they'd given the duty to that day. It was a choice of five, and Kaelin wasn't particularly fond of being stuck beneath any of 'em.
They had Na'vah young in the enclosure. The field was wet and slick with mud and the sky was an ominous, cloudy gray. It always was this time of year. Still, it was better than training in the blistering heat of July or August. Scale-plates were good at keeping water out, and their shiny surface meant they didn't get heavy in the rain, but in the summer they were death traps.
Kaelin reached around to his side and pulled the leather straps secure and firm against his waist, closing the armor and tucking away any loose leather ends. He'd need a new vest soon, the one he'd been given when he'd joined had gotten too tight with his training and it rubbed uncomfortably around his shoulders and armpits. Nothing he couldn't handle, though.
With his armor in place, he slung his father's old harness over his shoulder and fastened it, sliding the two enchanted blades into place before stepping out into the Grand Hall. The others were mostly ready and Kaelin grunted as he reached for the two training swords hanging on his personal mount.
